230 KM, approximately 4h30 drive

A morning stroll in the spa town of Antsirabe will allow you to soak up the atmosphere of the Highlands and the atmosphere of a city having preserved beautiful Merina houses as well as some colonial buildings which bear witness to its luster of yesteryear. The thermal establishment built at the beginning of the century on the banks of Lake Ranomafana is one of these admirable constructions. The visits continue to local artisans: a semi-precious stone cutting workshop, an embroidery workshop and an artisanal confectionery. Resumption of the road towards Fianarantsoa and stop at Ambositra. This small high-altitude city is the commercial crossroads of the Zafimaniry tribes. Artisans from remote villages come to sell their precious wood crafts, mainly sculpture and marquetry. Walk around the city and visit a sculptor’s workshop. This is an opportunity to interact with artisans to understand the basic methods of marquetry. A real discovery for such careful work.
